I get butterflies in my stomach for a few weeks before a maiden launch of a big project, in this case the Telstar Logistics V2.1, my largest project. For a sense of scale, my kids fit inside (before finishing the build, of course =)
Did I build it strong enough over the past year? Do I believe the detailed computer simulation? Will the launch rail be long enough to get to speed? Was 30 lbs of lead bricks in the tip of the nose cone the right amount to for a stable flight? Have I properly configured the redundant G-Wiz HCX avionics computers? And most critically, will the batteries perform in the heat? Will the N2801 motor hold together (o-rings under intense heat and pressure)? Will the custom energetic igniter overpressure the motor? Will the graphite nozzle crack? Will my unusual design for staged deployment of multiple parachutes work (can only be tested in flight)? Do I have the right number of shear pins? Do I have the right amount of Kevlar to prevent the parachutes from melting? Have I kept the black powder dry for parachute deployment (my last V2.0 came back ballistic because of this)? Are the parachutes the right size for a proper landing (too small, and the fiberglass cracks, too large and they may drift miles away)? And so on… This is a partial list.
Perhaps it reflects a lack of confidence that I decided to start with the biggest U.S. motor you can buy, just in case I don’t get a second flight.
Well, it was a perfect flight, with a crackling roar of molten titanium sponge and a gentle deployment of the parachutes and soft landing, with no damage to the airframe. She’s ready to fly next weekend if I can find a N2000 motor case for BALLS.

My fortune from dinner last night is blurrred but it says "get your mind set…confidence will lead you on";I sure hope my fortune is right.
What you need to achieve everything you want? Some would say that money, other that discipline and other would point to your innate skills. The point is that everything would be worthless if we lacked one thing: self confidence.
Of course, self confidence derives from knowing that you have the right type of skills and interesting goals to achieve. The rule of thumb says that the clearer the goal is, the higher self confidence gets. And, truth to be said, there is little people can do without it. Even the most capable body and mind won’t do anything good without the self confidence. It form a base on which every human activity rests on. Without it, you won’t achieve any success – you wouldn’t even know what success means!
It is relatively easy to see if someone is self confident or not if only you know where to look. The way someone walks, communicates, works or socializes will tell you loads of the individual’s self confidence or lack of it. Even a simple handshake can tell you a lot about his or her amount of self confidence.
A good thing about the self confidence is that it tends to infect other. Oftentimes even a single self-confident person can change the attitudes of everyone in a room. Sometimes it seems as if the world itself decided to help such man. A confident person attracts friendships, but commands respect, too.
Your self confidence forms the basis of everything else in your world
It is impossible to do anything for real if you’re not self confident. Low level of confidence will slow down your steps and prevent you from taking initiative when you need it. Why? Because low self confidence is able to paralyze a man, body and soul at the time he or she needs to make a decision quickly. The old saying “you must stand for something or you will fall for anything” is true. And if you stand for something, only your self confidence will keep you together.
The good (or bad, depending on the point of view) thing is that the self confidence is neither genetic nor hereditary. Confidence has to be gained or learned, improved or practiced. It won’t come to you al by itself, but you can easily rise it in your self.
The fighter and the wreck
“No pain, no gain” as the saying goes. What lets people to take risks and profit from that while most others are held back? The answer is: their levels of self confidence – they may make people risk, fight and lead others without any regard of failure. Remove it from someone, and all is left is a human wreck.
Be Confident: the only way to do it
Confidence is not just another asset. In today’s world, self confidence is a basis of your survival; both at work and at home. A good job requires being good at the interview. Forcing a raise can work only if you are confident enough. Self confidence gets all the attention. This in turn brings acceptance love, peace and energy. The energy makes you a good worker and even better human. And this, in turn, causes your confidence to grow even more. Get to this upward spiral and watch how you entire life changes!

Or several lenses… if you count those two and the three for my camera! I love wearing my glasses – I think they make my face look a lot more interesting. I only got them in October, and they’re my first pair of ‘colourful’ glasses after years of simple thin black frames. They make me feel rather professional, a little bit quirky and give me bags more confidence. I think the £75 I paid for them and the £30 for UltraClear coating was worth it… well, maybe.
Interesting fact: I have myopia (short-sightedness) in one eye and hyperopia (long-sightedness) in the other. And it’s always fun to see the optician eventually find that out!

This photo is more humorous than to be taken seriously. Janie’s mother had a "date" and was picked up in this red corvette. Of course, the photo was rushed, and we took the photo in an apartment complex building. So, I photoshopped in some fake looking buildings, and some clouds. Haha.
Janie did an excellent job on this shoot. She is still working on getting more experience in modeling. As the shoot progressed she gained more confidence and focus on the shoot. She has a bright future ahead of her, and I look forward to more photo shoots with Janie.
As for lighting Janie, I had one strobe bouncing off a white umbrella on camera left. The rest was the sun on two different days.
Day 457: Goin’ To The Chapel

I made up this quasi-portfolio/brag book to take to a dinner meeting with a possible wedding client tonight. I spoke with the groom over a month ago, tossing out the possibility (since I know both of them) and giving him my card. Since I hadn’t heard anything I figured she had contracted someone else, no harm no foul. But she called me up a week ago, we talked a bit, and scheduled to meet today.
I’ve realized lately I simply don’t have to time or heart right now to really be in a place where I can be selling myself, it’s just not in me. At the same time, every inch of me wants to do the job/s… that people want ME to do. So, I laid it all out there, acknowledging that she has to feel right and confident in whomever she chooses, and there’s not too much I can do to "make" that happen. Somehow, by Hand of God, she got the right feel/confidence, and I’ve got a bona fide wedding on my plate for this summer.

Grumpy Girl order (whole thing)

Here’s my late July order from boutique soap maker Grumpy Girl.
Two 4oz bars of the delightfully named "Porn Star In Pink Panties" (which smells so nice!), two soap samples (Bless Me Father and It’s Got Balls) and a tube of Orange You Special lip balm.
Porn Star In Pink Panties is obviously a very girly name and a very girly pink, and it’s got a really nice, clean fragrance which even a guy could wear with confidence. I love it. The great thing about it is that the scent doesn’t completely wear off. I’ve been able to smell it the next day. Love that!
The lip balm (or lip crack, as GG calls it) is a VERY rich-smelling orange-and-vanilla confection.
